Project Overview: The intern will be responsible for building and delivering a comprehensive financial model for an electricity-generating company based in Kenya. It is Kenya's largest electricity generator. It operates a diverse generation portfolio spanning hydro, geothermal, thermal, and wind assets, and is listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange. The model will serve as a core valuation and decision-support tool for the company and its clients, covering: • Full three-statement financial model (Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow Statement) • Segment-level revenue build by generation technology and capacity • Debt schedule, capex waterfall, and refinancing analysis • Intrinsic valuation via DCF (FCFF / FCFE), supported by market-based comps • Scenario and sensitivity analysis (tariff changes, FX, hydrology risk, capex delays) • Investment thesis write-up and executive summary What You’ll Do • Assist in building a financial model (Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) • Support revenue and cost analysis across different business segments • Help prepare basic valuation analysis (DCF and comparable companies) • Conduct industry and company research • Work on scenario analysis (e.g., changes in tariffs, costs, or growth assumptions) • Contribute to investment notes and presentations Key Responsibilities: • Gather and organise financial data from public sources • Conduct basic industry and company research • Support financial modelling and analysis in Excel • Assist with valuation and scenario analysis • Contribute to reports and presentations Preferred Qualifications : We are looking for candidates currently enrolled in or recently graduated from: • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Engineering (with finance focus), or a related quantitative discipline • CFA Level I (passed or in progress) is a strong advantage • Coursework or self-study in financial modelling, corporate valuation, or investment analysis • Prior internship or project experience in investment banking, equity research, corporate finance, or infrastructure finance is preferred but not mandatory What You’ll Gain This is a hands-on, high-ownership role.
